The clinical facilities of the Institute are managed by the Head
& Neck Directorate of NHS Lothian. There are 60 dental
chairs within four clinical departments:
- Oral and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral
Medicine
- Orthodontics
- Paediatric Dentistry
- Restorative Dentistry
Departmental teams are led by Consultants who are experts in
their own fields and hold Honorary appointments with the University
of Edinburgh The Institute provides specialist dental services to
the populations of the Lothians, Borders and Fife. There are close
working relationships with the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgery at St. John's Hospital, Livingston, the Orthodontic
Department at Borders Hospital Melrose and The Royal Hospital for
Sick Children, Edinburgh. Patients are seen on referral from
general dental practitioners, other primary care dentists, general
medical practitioners and other Consultants and Specialists.
There is a full dental radiology service and the dental
laboratory services in orthodontics and fixed and removable
prosthodontics are provided on-site.
The equipment is modern and the clinical facilities and level of
dental nursing and administrative support provide an environment
which encourages and facilitates high quality.
