The Edinburgh Postgraduate Dental Institute works in close collaboration with the Edinburgh Dental Institute and NHS Education for Scotland (NES) to provide the best in clinical and academic facilities for excellence in dentistry in the Lauriston Building.
The clinical facilities were opened in November
1997 and are excellent. Kavo provided the equipment with all the
quality that their name
implies.
The teaching rooms are located within the Lauriston Building: these carry the modern educational aids that would be expected. Postgraduates have access to desk-top computers all of which have Internet access and electronic mail facilities.
The Erskine Medical Library lies close by, a five-minute walk away. This has a comprehensive range of dental journals, which also go back over many years. Postgraduates at the Postgraduate Dental Institute also have library privileges at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and are able to make use of their Internet Café, where training in IT is offered to postgraduates. The Postgraduate Institute collaborates with the Faculty of Life Sciences of the University of Edinburgh where excellent opportunities for research are available. The Institute has another research focus in Dental Primary Care and is part of a consortium to develop dentistry within the Primary Care. The consortium draws its membership from NHS Education for Scotland and the Universities of Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow. A further development is the establishment of a practice-based research network, DENREN, to facilitate the promotion of research in dental practice. |
